Tournament and Event Rules
Hello Warlords!
Today we want to announce and highlight the first iteration of what has been a long time coming: Tournament and Event Rules for Warlord: Saga of the Storm. Event Rules or “floor rules” of some kind have been a staple of organized play for quite a while now, so many new players are already familiar with the concept, but a structured version (like is now available at warlordsots.com/rules) has long been something that was sorely missing for Warlord. Today we finally change that fact!
The Tournament and Event Rules give event organizers a written guide for how to approach an exhaustive list of ruling situations that tend to pop up during a Warlord event while also giving players notice of the sorts of things that will likely cause some sort of warning or penalty during the course of an event. (For example: “What happens when my opponent accidentally draws three cards when they play Meet at the Inn?”, “How long should rounds be?”, “What do we do if a player is late?”). Rules for these situations are something we have been asked about numerous times already, and we are excited to be able to finally release something that allows our event organizers to have these answers.

This document also paves the way for a few other programs we’re actively working on in the near future such as a judge program, sanctioned stores, tournament series, and, of course, the organized play and challenge system. This document is an important first step in all of those programs and an important guide for stores and other event organizers to be able to use on the game’s release.
I also want to give a special thanks to our own Chris Waits, who was the major force behind putting this document together. Chris has an extensive background judging for other games and has been an important part of our team over the past few months. He, along with others, spent many hours getting this document together and providing feedback on all sorts of questions and scenarios, and we are extremely grateful for their efforts.
Finally, I want to say that the Tournament and Event Rules, like the Comprehensive Rules, will be a living document. We will be reviewing and making updates as needed on the same quarterly cadence as the comprehensive rules and will have a similar changelog available.
