Into the Accordlands Organized Play

Hello, fellow Warlords!

Into the Accordlands is in the hands of players all over the world, battles are waging, and Warlords are being slain. It has been an exciting couple of months, but there is something missing - Organized Play!

The most oft-asked question when we announced the return of the game was, “Are you going to bring back the challenge system?!?”, to which the answer has always been a resounding “Yes!”

Let’s take a step back and discuss what this looks like.

Warlord’s Challenge System has three tiers, each with its own corresponding “Challenge Lord”.

OVERLORD

The first and most important starts at the weekly events run in your Local Game Shop (LGS). At the end of each event top players will have a chance to face off against an overpowered deck centering around an “Overlord”, who serves as the Warlord for the challenge. If the Overlord is defeated, the challenger will get to keep the Overlord and its deck as the prize for defeat. Only one Overlord may be defeated each week, though some weeks the Overlord may stand victorious over all challengers.

DRAGON LORD

The second tier of the challenge system is a side event that takes place at regional level events, several of which are already in the works. If you have been lucky enough to have defeated an Overlord in a weekly event at your LGS, you can redeem that Overlord in order to challenge a Dragon Lord. Overlords will be hole punched and returned in order to signify redemption. Dragon Lords, as the name suggests, are powerful characters that lead armies of dragons. Unlike Overlords, Dragon Lord runners get to build their own constructed decks, so you never know what you may face! If a player is able to defeat the onslaught of dragons they will be rewarded with a copy of that Dragon Lord card.

MEDUSAN LORD

The third and final tier of the challenge system are the Medusan Lords. Medusan Lords are special one-of-a-kind challenge lords that are run by prominent community members and Kingswood staff as a side event at larger events like Gen Con. In order to participate in a Medusan Lord side event you must have first defeated a Dragon Lord, which may be redeemed in order to challenge a Medusan Lord. Like Overlords, Dragon Lords will be hole punched and returned in order to signify redemption. Medusan Lords are the toughest battle your Warlord will ever face. Each one has powers and abilities that would make entire legions turn away, but your lone army will stand against the onslaught and, if you manage to win, will go down in history as the sole player to have ever defeated the awesome foe. As for your prize for doing so, you’ll receive one of just two copies of the card with the runner holding onto the other.

So, how can you get in on the action? Great question!

Reach out to your LGS and let them know that you are interested in Organized Play. There are already a number of stores signed up for Warlord OP, which you can find here. Starting now, stores are able to preorder our initial Organized Play kits through our direct sales platform, Fulfilled, with a ship date of May 25th. We will have more formal kits in the coming months which will be available for stores through distribution. As the larger kits are taking longer than we wanted, we partnered with Covenant to make sure we’re getting OP kicked off as quickly as possible with these initial kits.

Organized Play materials will not be available for gaming groups or individuals, only brick and mortar LGS that run in-store events.

These initial kits will contain Extended Art promo cards to be awarded to top players, as well as Overlord decks for the soon-to-be infamous ‘Diabolus Ryden’, a powerful Deverenian Empire summoner intent on bringing back The Storm. At then end of Into the Accordlands Saga or Limited events where OP is available, top players will have a chance to challenge Diabolus and see if they can take down this devastatingly powerful Overlord.

It is also our privilege to announce that we are partnering with Odyssey Games in Kalamazoo, Michigan to launch this first Overlord the weekend before official release on May 23rd. Players at this event will have a chance to challenge Diabolus for the first time in an effort to be the first ever Warlord to take down the Overlord. The first player to defeat Diabolus will have an opportunity to speak with our Story Team to decide Diabolus’ fate and help shape the story of his defeat. We also anticipate this being the format for future Overlord launches. There will be a new Overlord for each set, and for each Overlord we will partner with an LGS to have a launch event with story impact. The abilities of the Overlords will not be revealed prior to these events.

Getting these Overlords going in local stores is going to be an exciting first step for the overall rollout of the challenge system, and we are beyond excited to reveal the first Dragonlord and Medusan Lord later this summer. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to email support@kingswood.gg and we will be more than happy to help you in any way we can!
