Hello, Fellow Warlords!
This quarter we saw the beginnings of higher profile tournaments for Warlord post re-release. Let’s take a look at where the formats stand!
Saga
Saga is still a pretty young format, and admittedly small at the moment with just a single set. This past quarter we had Gen Con as well as two SCG CONs to see what people are playing for keeps in Saga. It’s clear that there are some favorite decks, cards, and Warlords. We continue to monitor play patterns and community discussion, and we’re excited for increased attendance and data from events like SCG CON LA and Hartford in October. At this time we are not making any changes to the Saga format.
Ancients
This quarter has been exciting for Ancients fans as we got to see a smattering of different decks at Gen Con and both SCG CONs. Gen Con had an extremely diverse cast of decks making the top 8, including midrange, control, and aggressive “me” Warlord fighters and rogues. The committee all agreed that no changes were necessary at this time, but that a handful of effects are worth monitoring. Effects that require very little cost and little to no relevant die rolls (easy dice manipulation, roll orders with no downside, etc.) is towards the top of the list, but just for monitoring at this time.
Alliance
This past quarter we announced our first preconstructed Alliance decks, which will go a long way towards bringing more eyes to the format. We continue to see people having a lot of fun with the format at home, locally, and at conventions, but have decided to continue to hold off on any adjustments at this time.
